Suzy's Toast
In keeping with our interest in Rhone wines, we've sourced two of the premier white varietals from two of the best vineyards of the Northern California Wine Country.
For the 2009 Suzy's Toast, the choice was Roussanne, one of the two white varietals grown in Hermitage and commonly added to Syrah, the only red grape grown in Northern Rhone. It is a delicious wine, soft and appealing with overtones of pear, cantaloupe and lemon. When we first bottled the wine, Suzy and Squire bought fresh cantaloupe, made melon balls, wrapped them in prosciutto and had an entire melon meal with our new wine! Most of you know that the profit margin in sales went to our graphic designer, Ginnie Nichols, who is suffering from an aggressive form of cancer.
For the 2011 Suzy's Toast, the choice will be Viognier, the only white varietal that may be co-fermented with Syrah, the only red GRAPE grown in the Cote-Rotie area of Northern Rhone. At a Sonoma Valley Vintners and Growers BBQ in 2011, Squire and Suzy first tasted an incredible Viognier home wine made from the Gokey Vineyard off Trinity Road in Glen Ellen, fell in love with it and contracted the fruit for the upcoming harvest. 2011 will be our very first Suzy's Toast Viognier!
